Hey there, please don’t be sad as it will be ok. You have a child with your partner and uscis is just behind in general so it’s not specific to your case. I’m sure you’re a wonderful mom and person but you got hit with a double whammy being a new mom which is very hard work and going through the process BUT if you just hang in there… it will get better and you will come out much stronger! In a year or two, this will be a past memory. Focus on keeping the home, being healthy by going on walks, eating healthy meals, taking care of yourself physically AND plan for the future. Look at where your child will attend school/daycare/activities. Plan your resume, research schools for yourself etc Whatever you do don’t fall into a depression. Plan for your very bright future which is inevitable. Tough times don’t last, tough people do💕

I live in Oklahoma. one of my friends told me that he was trying to renew his drivers license with a pending 485 but they didn’t renew his.

LD I just googled OK dmv law and it says ‘A pending application for adjustment of status to legal permanent residence status or conditional resident status’ you can get temporary license. I’m in NY which is much more liberal/has more immigrants and when I had my 2 year green card and wanted a Federal DL and the dmv employee told me I wasn’t eligible. They said it’s only for citizens and I would get a normal license when right behind me there was a big cutoff saying Perm residents were Eligible. She got upset when I pointed it out and said ‘ok but why is ur green card only 2 years’ I explained why as it’s marriage based and doesn’t make me any less of a perm resident lol They had to call Albany (state capital) to check and I was eligible. She was so embarrassed and left the counter and someone else process my license profusely apologizing. At this point the entire waiting room was watching lol A lot of employees just don’t know the law so print it out and get the license and don’t be intimidated.

maybe I should take a Uber and take my son and go there to have a try. it’s just my drivers license has been expired since January 2021. I don’t know if this will make them have another exuse to not renew my drivers license.

@L D you can apply for Ab60 driver license. I know that’s an option in CA. you can ask in the local DMV

I would phone the dmv first, explain the situation and book an appointment. If they argue with you be sure you have a printout ready from the DMV website saying under which law u r Eligible. A lot of these people are very misinformed or uninformed so be ready to hold ur own

So sorry! Check your DMV. I thought I couldn’t renew mine either but just did (for 3mths) a few days ago. In California, with expired EAD and expired 180-day extension, you can renew your DL but you must show your expired EAD and I-797C notice of action letter.

where did you find the law. all I find is from the website and they want are things like: birth certificate or valid visa etc.

you just need to check AB60 DL if that exists in Oklahoma. it would be something that you would get without a social security or permanent residence, and it’s not a Real ID.

@LD hi I pray you and your family get some peace… I share this before I have been waiting on immigration to approved me for over 5 years I left my children back home in my country so yea I feel exactly what you saying… so with your drivers license I think you can use your pending i485 that’s what I have been using most of the dmv I go to they try to give me a hard time too because they don’t know The law as someone said in one of the comments.. well not all the time but look keep the faith and look a head GOD bless.

please try to do the due diligence of going to DMV yourself, preferably not the one your friend went to. Different locations have different experiences, but for the most part you can renew your DL temporarily with your pending AOS.

@LD I’ve renewed in Maryland and I’ve also heard people complain about some MVA offices not accepting i485 notice in Maryland, so I’m pretty sure it’s a similar situation in OK. You don’t have to try it, it’s just a suggestion.
