How does visa Bulletin work?
I recently interviewed at San Jose field office. My spouse is on GC so visa officer told me we’ll review your application, and depending on availability of visas according to this months visa bulletin we’ll make our decision. My status changed back to Application in Review. I’m from Pakistan so would my visa depend on General Category visas availability?

in chart A, F2A is current for all countries so not sure what does your IO mean. maybe he/she is new? maybe set up a info pass appointment to clear that. I’ll be interviewing in SJ office in a couple days. can you please share the experience/questions they asked during the interview, if you don’t mind?

my experience was ok. interviewer wasn’t too friendly. He asked us basic questions like where you live, anything changed since you submitted application? when did you move to this address, when was last time you entered US. Make sure to go through all the important dates. Then asked us to show joint documents. Everything was pretty normal. My wife is on Green Card so my application fall into F2A, he said he doesn’t make decision during interviews so I’ll review your application, depending on availability of visa according to USCIS Visa Bulletin we’ll make decision. He tried to explain how it works that your application date would be considered as your priority date when you submitted the application and when we asked couple of questions related to what he was explaining he said I can’t sit here and explain you the procedure you can search it online which we find very rude he could have said it nicely. Anyways our online status changed from Interview Scheduled back to Application in Review.
My friend also gave interview at San Jose office and he had great experience, similar kind of questions were asked to him, interviewer looked at wedding photos as well and was very interested in knowing how weddings are in your culture etc and was very friendly. His wife was US citizen so his GC was approved in interview and he got his card after 4 days.

your officer may not be in a good mood. what he said at the end was rude indeed…I don’t get why he’s treating F2A differently… I meant it’s all current… I’ll print out the USCIS Vida Bulletin page with me tomorrow to the interview in case I have the same IO as yours… hopefully his supervisor reviews yours case and approves soon. you friend is so lucky, I haven’t heard a whole lot of approve on the spot case in SJ.. many of them get approved at least two weeks after..

Let me know your experience goes once you have your interview. Is your spouse GC holder or US Citizen?
Mimi CUIOct 27, 2021
GC holder, same as you

hope you get approved soon! the officer mentioned most cases need to go through review so once their QC approved you should be fine
