I’m from one of the 39 countries barred from adjustment of status. My asylum-based adjustment is ready for interview, though these cases are often approved without one
Case Summary: I was granted asylum by an immigration judge in 2020 and filed my adjustment of status application in 2021. My application has remained pending, and my USCIS case status now shows “Ready to Be Scheduled for an Interview.” I am from one of the 39 countries reportedly affected by the recent adjustment of status pause, which concerns me because asylum-based adjustments are often adjudicated without an interview. I also have a single DWI arrest that occurred after asylum was granted and after I filed my adjustment application. The criminal case was resolved through pretrial intervention and dismissed with prejudice. I have never traveled outside the United States since being granted asylum. My concern is whether the interview is a routine step, related to my DWI history, or connected to the reported pause affecting applicants from my country.
