EAD approved after multiple expedites through Emma/ombudsman/congressman/senator
I originally expedited on 03/07, did not hear back so on 03/17 an agent put in a new/follow up request. On 03/23, we were asked for evidence and faxed it the same day. Had 2 follow up calls with tier 2 officers. Last one was last Thursday, he put in a follow up request.
Simultaneously, the ombudsman expedited for us last Monday. I believe the congressman’s office did too (they asked for our evidence last Monday after not hearing back from them for 1 month), and senator asked for our receipt notice yesterday, so maybe they submitted it too.
But we never got any expedite approved, I even asked an agent on Emma about the expedite status 5 minutes before we got approved and she said there was no response, also no response to the follow up from Thursday.
We are over the moon happy :)
Our expedite reason was that my husband has a job offer and we need him to start working so that I can accept my PhD offer (deadline is this Friday so it came right on time), since my PhD stipend would not cover our living expenses.

congratulations. how did you get them to do the follow up every time I ask for it they say wait until 30 days has passed to put in a follow up request I’m so frustrated

I tried multiple agents on Emma until one was nice. I always tried to be extremely friendly and polite to them, I think that helps. And I said that it was very urgent due to the upcoming deadline.

yes exactly. I was surprised too, I read on Reddit that 2 months ago they didn’t even help with out of processing times cases due to the backlog. They also responded pretty fast, 2.5 weeks

and I wouldn’t say that my expedite reason was life threatening, I have read far worse cases with pending surgeries, a lot of credit card debt etc. So I would say the ombudsman is definitely worth a try (though again I don’t have any indication that my case just got approved independently from my expedites)

I did not, I don’t know if I should have. I was not sure if I would ever hear back from mine, I read that he is very unresponsive (e.g I tried calling at least 20 times and no one ever picked up)

I also noticed the ombudsman confirmation email saying the petitioner’s consent is required. I entered the petitioner’s name in the last section (signature section, actually just type her name). Other than that, do I have to submit another scan copy of the petitioner’s signature in wet ink? Thanks

I believe we just drew another line and I signed there on the same piece of paper, seems that was fine (I am the petitioner)

@ ca bug Yes on 03/03. It was short and only very easy questions, but the officer was junior (second officer in the room), so we didn’t get approval on the spot and have been waiting since. I don’t feel stressed about it now with the EAD, but still disappointed that we will wait so long despite being an easy case

how do you request the ombudsman to request expedite please? I saw on their website they said they can’t request expedite ??? what did you ask for them to do please
