I don’t think you can file jointly as long as she doesn’t have a SSN, try to contact TurboTax
Blessing Godson20 de mar de 2022
No as long she lives outside of the USA you can't files your tax as married, Do it as single

sure
thanks

nooooo! file married filing separately because you are not single, you are married. you need to file married filing separately and in the box that asks for her tax ID you will put NRA (non resident alien). who ever said you can file as single is dead wrong. please get informed before making any decisions. you might have to explain later why you were filing single when you were legally married.

Agreed with what Luisa stated and I got the same answer yesterday from a friend of mine who is working in this field for the last 35 years.

@Luisa Fernandez
thank you. yes, it makes sense to file married. my idea is that I can get more refund if I file married-jointly.
what about filling w7 form to get tax identification number for my wife and use that number for filing married-jointly

?
Lu F20 de mar de 2022
you can do that as well!
Toni Shah20 de mar de 2022
Luisa is correct. That is what I did last year...married, filing separately and writing in NRA for his ID. IRS agent said to do it that way.

i did single aswell.
gy gy22 de mar de 2022
you are married, file married separately. filing as a single will put a big question mark ❓
sam 16722 de mar de 2022
but if she is not in states?
Nabeel Beidas22 de mar de 2022
even she is not in the states. Nothing changes the fact that you are married.

How is the idea of getting wifes tax identification number and then filing as married filing jointly. wife doesnt have any income abroad. can yall please advise on this?
Hossein Riazi31 de mar de 2022
@patrik
I did extensive search and several tax expert.
you can file as married jointly. you need to fill W7 form to get a ITIN ( TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBER) for your wife. you mail the form along with your tax return documents to IRS. you cannot electronically file .

Is that better option, it helps to get more money back in return correct.
Hossein Riazi1 de abr de 2022
yes, you will get more money compared with filing as married separately
