you have to call your local ssn office and make appointment, I got my appointment scheduled the same day I called, it took me a week after my appointment to get my ssn in the mail

I called my local SSA and they told me its not automatic to receive SSN after getting your GC. I had to book an appointment which is two weeks away. Already wasted two weeks making a total of one month . It sucks!

Earlier only 765 applications had an option to apply for SSN in which case it is usually sent in 2 weeks. But 485 in 2020 didn’t have an option to apply for ssn, but the latest form has one. if you haven’t ticked or filled that option, you have to visit SSA to get one.
