Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
Key Approvals: I-360 Approved and I-765 Approved (I have a valid EAD).
Priority Date (PD): September 23, 2023.
Next Step: Waiting for my PD to become current so I can file my I-485 (Adjustment of Status).
Criminal Record: I have no serious criminal record—only traffic tickets and one old misdemeanor for driving without a license (which was paid and resolved in court).
My main questions are:
Risk of Deportation/Detention: Given that my I-360 is approved (which grants SIJS status and protection), a valid EAD, and no major criminal record, do I still face a significant risk of deportation or detention while waiting for my priority date? I'm particularly concerned given the current climate and the reports of SIJS individuals being detained.
Immediate Action if Detained: If I were to be detained by ICE/CBP, what is the most critical first step I should take? What documents should I insist on presenting immediately to assert my approved SIJS status and valid EAD?

No, as of June 2025, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) alone does not guarantee protection from deportation 😭

If your work permit was approved before July 2025 under deferred action, you are protected from deportation while work authorization is valid.
