long post!!
I’m posting this to encourage anyone out there who is still dealing with their immigration paperwork: PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP.I know it’s easy to tell someone not to give up when you’re not in their position, but I truly understand how difficult this journey can be because I’ve been going through mine since 2019. I went through VAWA, was initially denied, appealed the decision, and eventually got approved. Then came the long I-485 wait. There were so many moments when I felt exhausted, discouraged, and wondered when my turn would finally come. I eventually reached out to my congressman for help. They submitted an inquiry on my behalf on July 10, 2026, and on July 15, 2026, my case finally started moving. I continued waiting and praying until October 7, 2026. I did attend my I-485 interview. The interview was very short and mainly consisted of basic security/background questions. After the interview, my case was continued for additional review, so the waiting continued. Then, on October 6, I received a notification saying my interview was canceled and that a notice had been ordered. I immediately started crying and praying because I thought something else had gone wrong. But God had already worked it out. October 7, 2026 MY I-485 WAS APPROVED! After everything I’ve been through, I can finally say that there really is light at the end of the tunnel. I haven’t seen my parents in 10 years, so this approval means so much more to me than just receiving a green card. It represents freedom, hope, family, and finally being able to move forward. My case was handled through the Atlanta Field Office. To anyone still waiting, please keep your faith. I know this journey is NOT easy. There will be days when you feel tired, frustrated, and ready to give up. But please keep pushing, keep praying, and advocate for yourself. If your case qualifies, consider reaching out to your Congressional representative for assistance. I’m praying for everyone still walking this journey. Don’t give up. Keep pushing. Keep praying. Your story can change when you least expect it. There really is light at the end of the tunnel.

@book of proverb! 🙏 Thank you all! The issue was actually related to my previous marriage. I was married customarily in my home country, and USCIS initially wanted a divorce certificate. I explained that, under the laws of my country, I was not legally required to obtain a divorce certificate for a customary marriage. I went to the court in my country and obtained documentation showing that there was no official record of a legal marriage. I submitted that evidence to USCIS because they believed that when I married my U.S. citizen spouse, I was still legally married back home. I had to explain the circumstances and provide proof, and after reviewing everything, they determined that I was not legally married at the time I married my U.S. citizen spouse.
