Joining Army with Conditional green card but Divorce
I have a conditional greencard, I am currently planning on joining the military but spouse is filling for a divorce. I am wondering if the divorce will affect my citizenship through military

no go ahead and join the army that will transition you to citizenship after your training
Al-Anthony Bailey31 de dic de 2021
no join and bring the n400 and the one for officer O-6 and above to sign (your recruiter will give you all the necessary forms for citizenship), then after a year (basic training and ait) you should get citizenship by then. Make sure to study the 100 civics questions practice tests. They are pretty easy. make sure to finalize the divorce first or put it till later. don't want any court hearing to pull you from training or stress from divorce stop you from focusing on training. Because your military career is more important than any woman\man. Don't wanna end up failing AIT because you were stressed over divorce. It's your career and your life, put all focus on completing it! Good luck 😃

when do I get to sign the N426? during basics? also, while processing the application I filled married, she wants a joint divorce, should I sign the divorce form after MEPS? So I don’t get any court order during basic training?

c camelus31 de dic de 2021
you can get your N426 signed when you go to your first day of drill

it wont affect your citizenship through military in fact you can join the military with even 6 months remaining on your green card and they will make you sign atleast a 3 year contract, because they know your gonna get your citizenship no matter what. my bro is in basic training right now and he already submitted his papers for citizenship.
I O31 de dic de 2021
@Lorenzo, did he divorce before joining?
r
renzo nyc31 de dic de 2021
he did his papers before leaving for basic training little before he graduated he asked his lawyer to send it off
I O31 de dic de 2021
the Divorce or the green card?
I O31 de dic de 2021
the Divorce or the green card?
r
renzo nyc31 de dic de 2021
he already had greencard
I O31 de dic de 2021
conditional green card right?
r
renzo nyc31 de dic de 2021
yes, yes when he joined he had 6 months leave on his greencard, instead of filing to remove conditions from greencard he had the privilege to apply for citizenship instead
r
renzo nyc31 de dic de 2021
if your gonna join army you have to atleast have 6 months leave on greencard on the day you ship out for training
r
renzo nyc31 de dic de 2021
or they would ask you to file to remove conditions from your greencard, after you send that in uscis will send you a notice with 24 months extension
r
renzo nyc31 de dic de 2021
you can use that to join army
Al-Anthony Bailey31 de dic de 2021
Lorenzo is correct 💯.
Al-Anthony Bailey31 de dic de 2021
some AIT last a year. so you can fill your citizenship normally during basic training. you don't have to wait to go-to your unit. But yeah I'd say get the divorce taken care of so it doesn't mess with you, so you can focus soley on your training. As you don't wanna fail classes and get recycled etc
I O1 de ene de 2022
lorenzo are you Nigerian?
r
renzo nyc1 de ene de 2022
Jamaican
Al-Anthony Bailey1 de ene de 2022
nice same
I O2 de ene de 2022
@Lorenzo, what if the divorce is before basic training? any effect on citizenship and military contract?
Al-Anthony Bailey2 de ene de 2022
won't affect you. citizenship is a benefit you get once you join the military as a immigrant. they will spend millions of dollars on you. so they gonna want to get all that back. and that's why you get to gain expedited citizenship for serving.
Al-Anthony Bailey2 de ene de 2022
even though someone would sign a contract for 4 years. you still will be on ready reserve for another 4 years. that they can call you up anytime. so even though one would sign a 4 year contract. they technically are signing a 8 year contract. which is called inactive reserve
Al-Anthony Bailey2 de ene de 2022
so they are gonna want you to be a citizen so they can make sure you fulfil your contract
I O2 de ene de 2022
my spouse is putting pressure on me to sign the divorce papers. will it be a problem if I sign it before basic training?
r
renzo nyc2 de ene de 2022
wont affect citizenship is the benefit you get for serving the country your recruiter will tell you thats one the benefits. you will get it in a few months, military applications moves way faster than regular people. Divorcing wont disqualify you from anything
I O2 de ene de 2022
will the conditional green card still be valid after the divorce? it expires Nov 2023
r
renzo nyc2 de ene de 2022
yea exactly military contract trumps everything
Al-Anthony Bailey2 de ene de 2022
No way! I personally signed my divorce papers asap because I don't want nothing to do with my wife. and you'll be fine if you sign it now. best to do it quick so you don't have to give her any benefits from serving. As they'll want so much paperwork for that. but if you divorce then she ain't getting anything. yes your greencard will still be valid even if you get divorced, you're already a permanent resident, so she can't stop or change that. you can happily move on and live your life and get all the great benefits the military gives. Are you going reserves or active duty?
r
renzo nyc2 de ene de 2022
it wont be valid after the divorce try apply for citizenship before it expires and apply to remove conditions from your greencard so you can atleast get the 24 extension letter from uscis
I O2 de ene de 2022
I am doing reserves
I O2 de ene de 2022
@Lorenzo I dont get you. My conditional green card will expire in Nov 2023. I still have more than 1 year and a half on it
I O2 de ene de 2022
if i finish basic training and ait this year and apply for citizenship. It will still be valid
r
renzo nyc2 de ene de 2022
oh yea I wasn’t checking the date you should be good
I O2 de ene de 2022
my question is if the divorce will automatically cancel the 2 years green card I already have
r
renzo nyc2 de ene de 2022
it will be be valid
r
renzo nyc2 de ene de 2022
after get citizenship it will not
Al-Anthony Bailey2 de ene de 2022
Reserves is the best pick. Going active duty isnt worth it unless you just finished highschool in USA. Reserves is way better, especially if you chose a good job like Nurse, or Radiologist tech. you can get that certificate or nursing license and use it to do that same job in the civilian world while serving once a month. and make lots of cash. just make sure to study and get that career, also do practice test for civics 100 questions on YouTube. as when you go to do your citizenship interview they'll ask you 20 questions, and you'll have to get 16 correct I believe. Or you'll be rescheduled for another interview to retake the test again.
I O2 de ene de 2022
thanks Lorenzo. you seem to be very knowledgeable about citizenship via military. can we talk on phone or WhatsApp ( if you don’t mind)
I O2 de ene de 2022
thanks Al-Anthony

renzo nyc2 de ene de 2022
army reserves are national guard will be perfect if you just joining for citizenship you can get citizenship in any department of army
I O2 de ene de 2022
I was thinking the divorce will halt the military recruitment process
I O2 de ene de 2022
and the two year green card

@Al- Anthony Do we have to serve for 1 year to apply N400? or during basic training? I guess rules were changed.
r
renzo nyc14 de mar de 2022
can be done in basic training dont have to wait 1 year, because the country is still in war times
K
Kaji Basnet14 de mar de 2022
