Interview for I485 after VAWA/Case APPROVED
Just wanted to share my VAWA timeline and interview experience. I hope it helps someone!
My timeline:
* April 2022 – Filed VAWA (I-360) and I-485 together
* January 2026 – VAWA approved
* April 2026 – Received the medical exam (I-693) request
* June 24, 2026 – Interview was scheduled
* July 8, 2026 – Interview completed
* July 8, 2026 – I-485 approved
Interview experience:
I had my interview in Chicago, and it was really easy. The officer only asked simple questions: my name, where I work, when I came to the U.S., my parents’ names, and my marital status.
I filed my I-485 while I was married, but I’m now divorced. Since they had my original application from 2022, the officer asked when I got divorced and requested my divorce decree. I had already obtained a certified copy from the court with the judge’s signature, so I was able to provide it.
I also brought my Social Security card, passport, Advance Parole, Employment Authorization Document (EAD), and all of my approval notices, but she didn’t ask to see any of them.
I had my lawyer with me, which made me feel much more comfortable. The interview mostly consisted of the standard yes-or-no questions. They did not ask me about the abuse or ask detailed questions about my ex-husband.
Remember: They can only ask very general questions about your marriage, such as when you got married, when you got divorced, your ex-spouse’s name, birthday, and when you met.
I would recommend having a lawyer with you if possible. It gave me peace of mind, and they can step in if needed.
The whole interview took less than 30 minutes.

@Maria Kaprin I have the same time line but my PD is March 2022 and my vawa is also approved on January 2026 I’ve submitted my Medical’s April 21 from then nothing you got interview scheduled in two months but I have nothing till now waiting for any update

@Maria Kaprin That is exactly what I'm worried about! I've never received any update notifications through my USCIS online account or my email, so I have to completely rely on physical mail. Knowing how often the mail gets delayed, I'm super stressed that I'll end up with barely any time to prepare

Please everybody I need your help and I need an answer. I have a question and I have a little problem.. I got approved on my I 131 travel document so but the uscis made a mistake on my name and sometime they sent me a letter for barometric, whereby they already approved my travel documents, and they have already sent it. The travel document to me. Should I attend for the biometric. So today me and my lawyer call the uscis office Monday 27th . A lady picked up the call asked me my name every information she needed and she checked on her system so that the barometric was canceled by us so my lawyer told her that we did not cancel any biometric appointment so she was saying, maybe it might be mistake from the office, but it was not showing on her system that the mistake is from the office. He was showing that they the applicant council it so then she not gave me an advice that I should go for the barometric capturing that if I did not go they mine revoke it .so I should go there and tender my problem telling them about my name was not spelled correct . and my biometric appointment is on Wednesday 29. I just need you guys advice.

@Odogwu Indy I think the best person to get advice from or ask certain question is your lawyer. I’ve had my biometrics done like over a year ago only a month after submitting and i’ve applied for travel authorization since February of this year and i’m still waiting smh
