take a appointment from your country’s consulate, they will issue you a new passport

If you're going to your home country you can go with your expired passport and there you can apply for a new passport requesting to expedite. As long as your country provide it before your trip back to U.S

You can travel to your home country with an expired passport and renew there. That does not affect your green card in any way.
