Your eligibility for an SSN depends on your immigration status and whether you have authorization to work in the U.S. If you don’t have an EAD, that doesn’t automatically mean you can’t get one, because some immigration statuses authorize employment without an EAD. I recommend taking your immigration documents, passport, and I-94 to a Social Security office so they can verify your status and tell you whether you’re eligible.
