I-485 transferred from NBC to Boston Field Office — good sign?
Hi everyone,
My I-485 has been pending since November 2024. My case was originally being handled by the National Benefits Center (NBC).
Today I chatted with a USCIS live agent, and they told me that my case has been transferred from NBC to the Boston Field Office. I live in Massachusetts.
Does anyone know what this usually means? Is a transfer to the local field office a positive sign that the case is moving toward adjudication, or is it just a normal part of the process and doesn’t necessarily mean anything?
My case has already been pending for almost 2 years, so I’m trying to understand whether this transfer is meaningful.
Has anyone in Massachusetts had their I-485 transferred from NBC to the Boston Field Office? If so, how long did it take after the transfer to receive an interview notice, RFE, or decision?
Any experiences or information would be appreciated. Thank you!

and when I asked my wife’s case which is I-485 derivative asylee they told us that my wife’s is at Boston asylum office. they said it’s different Boston field office and Boston asylum office. is it different ? should I concerned?

Same Nov 2024. and still at NBC and will file WOM in Nov 2026😩
