@Eliza Day That's not the difference between IR1 & CR1. Both are for a USC applying for spouse (IR1/CR1) vs PR following for spouse (F2A). You got that part right. For a USC filing, no matter if you're AOS (spouse in the US) or consulate (spouse abroad), IR1 is issued if you've been married more than 2 years at the time your GC/visa is issued; CR1 is a conditional visa issued to those married less than 2 years. If you receive CR1, you have to apply to remove those conditions.
