Yes the process is complicated. First u need to get an I140 before u can apply for I485 even though u can do both together. The danger of doing both together is if the i140 is denied they automatically deny the i485. If approved then i485 moves faster. There is also different times for both if u file separately. The i140 can be obtained from several avenues. For example u can petition for ur self wen it comes to NIW which does not require labor certificate.
