yes to both… you can go with your A5 working permit and social security will update your information and send you a new one. Do the same and use EAD at the DMV

you can remove the work restrictions on your ssn with just your i94 at the social security office and it’ll come within a week

@DB 2021 Thanks. The reason I’m asking is because my attorney’s office told me not to update my Social Security card until I get my green card. Since my I-485 is still pending, I was worried that updating my SSN or applying for a REAL ID could affect my case.

@sarah heips Thank you! were you able to get your REAL ID without updating your Social Security card first? My SSN still has the work restriction wording on it, and I’m wondering if that would be an issue for the DMV.

getting a real ID doesn’t affect any immigration process as even a driver license is a form of real ID. Even your EAD is real ID compliant

Once You got approved, You are able to go SSN Office with New EAD and Letter. I-485 and SSN Office are totally different. My Lawyer Told me and i updated it. No Problem at all.
