I’ve been waiting for what feels like forever. I had my first interview in 2019 for my I-130, and then another interview for my I-485 in 2022.
Just last week, I received a notification that I was scheduled for yet another adjustment of status interview. Two days later, I got another notification saying the interview was canceled and a notice was ordered.
Today, I received the mail, and it says “Notice of Cancellation” for my adjustment of status interview due to unforeseen circumstances. What’s even more confusing is that the interview date listed on the notice is from March 2019 — the same date I originally did my I-130 interview.
This whole process is honestly very confusing. I’ve read different posts and mixed opinions:
Some people say receiving this notice means USCIS wants to close the case and move toward approval.
Others say it might be related to the travel ban — which doesn’t make sense to me since the travel ban applies to NVC cases, not to people already in the U.S. who have completed interviews.
I’d really appreciate insights from anyone who has experienced something similar or has more knowledge about this situation. Please share your thoughts.

@kay j If your I-130/I-485 has been pending for more than 5 years then there’s a problem. Which country are you from? Were you or your spouse married before? which visa did you come in with?

@roccoforte - am originally from Nigeria, I came with a B1-B2 visa. I was initially married, got divorced and been with my wife now for up 7 years. Also, my wife has never been married.

@kay j Ok that is a problem. If you leave your case as is and based on that Nigerian divorce decree, they will keep you waiting for many years to come and will wake up one day to deny your case. They think divorce decrees from Nigeria are forged and fraudulent.

Actually the 75country travel ban affects both those in the U.S and outside the US.

@Jackson U His case has been pending for 7 years. The 75 country ban is the least of his problems.

The problem is the divorce decree from Nigeria, otherwise they might not deny you but your case will sit on their tables forever.
